How I Started My Party Rental Business at 16

When I was 16, I knew I wanted more than just the typical high school experience. While most people my age were focused on school dances, hanging out with friends, or planning for college, I was thinking about how I could create something of my own. That’s when I came up with the idea for a party rental business.

I’ve always been the go-to person when it came to organizing events for family and friends. Whether it was a birthday party, a backyard BBQ, or a graduation celebration, I loved making sure every detail was perfect. That passion led me to realize there was a gap in my community for affordable and reliable party rentals, and I saw an opportunity.

So, I decided to dive in. At 16, I started small—offering basic party supplies like tables, chairs, and linens to friends and family. I used the little money I had saved up from part-time jobs and saved up even more by cutting back on other expenses. I built my first website, created social media profiles, and began promoting my services to local communities.

The biggest challenge in the beginning was juggling schoolwork and running a business. Some days I was up until late planning events, coordinating deliveries, and handling customer inquiries. But I quickly learned how to manage my time, prioritize, and use school breaks to handle the busiest parts of the business.

Transitioning to Full-Time at 18

By the time I was 18, my party rental business had grown significantly. I started getting referrals and repeat customers, and before I knew it, I was handling a larger volume of events every month. I realized I had built something sustainable, and the idea of going to college and working a traditional job didn’t appeal to me anymore.

It was a big decision to take the leap and make my business my full-time focus, but it felt right. I’d already built a foundation of clients, developed relationships with suppliers, and honed my event-planning skills. So, I took the risk and turned my business into my career.

Today, at 18, I manage all aspects of the business—logistics, marketing, customer service, and the operational side of rentals. I’m proud to see how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited about where the future can take me. Running a business at this age definitely comes with its challenges, but it also offers incredible opportunities to grow, learn, and make a real impact in my community.
